Imaging Moving Atoms by Holographically Reconstructing the Dragged Slow Light

نویسندگان

چکیده

The propagation of light in moving media is dragged by atomic motion. light-drag effect can be dramatically enhanced reducing the group velocity with electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). We develop a systematic procedure to accurately reconstruct complex wavefront slow single-shot measurements, enabling precise, photon shot-noise-limited spectroscopic measurements response across EIT even presence generic number fluctuations. Applying technique an expanding cloud cold atoms, we demonstrate simultaneous inference density distribution and field from imaging data. This inline may assist wide range cold-atom experiments access phase-space information situ minimally destructive measurements.

Reconstructing light curves from HXMT imaging observations

The Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT) is a Chinese space telescope mission. It is scheduled for launch in 2015. The telescope will perform an all-sky survey in hard X-ray band (1 250 keV), a series of deep imaging observations of small sky regions as well as pointed observations. In this work we present a conceptual method to reconstruct light curves from HXMT imaging observation directly,...

Circuits for light in holographically defined photonic-band-gap materials

We present a theoretical roadmap for three-dimensional optical waveguide networks in holographically defined, diamondlike photonic band gap PBG materials. A fully 3D waveguide network is demonstrated through broadband 100–200 nm , single-mode waveguiding in air, coupled with sharp bends in three dimensions with minimal backscattering. Optimal waveguides in the in-plane x and y directions are sh...

Cold atoms: A field enabled by light

Besides being a source of energy, light can also cool gases of atoms down to the lowest temperatures ever measured, where atomic motion almost stops. The research field of cold atoms has emerged as a multidisciplinary one, highly relevant, e.g., for precision measurements, quantum gases, simulations of many-body physics, and atom optics. In this focus article, we present the field as seen in 20...

Coherent Backscattering of Light by Cold Atoms

Light propagating in an optically thick sample experiences multiple scattering. It is now known that interferences alter this propagation, leading to an enhanced backscattering, a manifestation of weak localization of light in such diffuse samples. This phenomenon has been extensively studied with classical scatterers. In this letter we report the first experimental evidence for coherent backsc...
